Dorothy M. Steinhauser

ROCKAWAY – Dorothy Marie Steinhauser died on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at home. She was 88.

Born in Kenvil, she was raised in Succasunna and lived most of her life in Rockaway.

Mrs. Steinhauser was a homemaker. For many years, she was a school crossing guard in Rockaway Borough.

She was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway.

She was predeceased by her husband George L. in 2001.

She is survived by three children George E. of Bayville, Timothy B. of Branchville and Carol J. Lally of Mine Hill; a sister Shirley Holmes of Berkshire Valley; 8 grandchildren George J. Steinhauser, Lori S. Santucci, Brandt E., Timothy E., Christopher J., and Britt M. Steinhauser, and Meghan and Caitlin Lally; and six great-grandchildren Kelsey, Carly and Jaycen Santucci, and Marissa, Vanessa and Dylan Steinhauser.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27 at 9:15 a.m. from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway to a funeral Mass at St. Cecilia’s Church at 10 a.m. Interment at Rockaway Presbyterian Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

Gertrude G. Earl

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Mrs. Gertrude Earl whose life has been blessed by God died June 22, 2009 at Sunny Vista Living Center, Colorado Springs, CO.

Gertrude had many interests and led an active life centered on church and family. She had worked in former years for A.R.C. Morris County Unit for handicapped children and also St Dunstens Nursery School. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Rockaway, for 75 years and an affiliate of Faith Presbyterian Church, Colorado Springs, CO since moving to Colorado in 2007.

Gertrude was predeceased by her husband Wilbur L. Earl in 2007.

Gertrude is survived by two daughters, Joan R. Thompson and Judith A. Peterson, both of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister Joan L. Cooper of Manchester and two loved and appreciated sons-in-law Joseph P. Thompson and James R. Peterson both of Colorado Springs, CO.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 35 Church St., Rockaway on Thursday, July 16. Inurnment to follow at Rockaway Presbyterian Cemetery.

Edith Louise Halley

ROCKAWAY – Edith Louise Halley died on Friday, June 19 at home. She was 97.

Born in Oak Ridge, she lived in Englewood before moving to Rockaway in 1950.

Mrs. Halley was a graduate of the Paterson Normal School in 1953 obtaining a degree in elementary education. She taught at Washington School in Rockaway before her retirement; and prior to that she taught at Milton School for 5 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Rockaways, and had a love for gardening.

She was predeceased by her husband Stanley in 1999.

She is survived by her daughter Janet R. Schraft of Rockaway; three sons, Dr. Fred S. of Rochester, NY, Stanley G. Jr. of Roseland, OR, and Dr. Robert B. of Cedar Edge, CO; two brothers Harold S. and Roland Fredericks; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 22 at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church of the Rockaway, 1 Hoagland Ave., Rockaway. Interment at North Hardyston Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway.

Harold J. Quinn

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – Harold J. Quinn died on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 in Port Charlotte, FL. He was 84.

Born in Newark, he lived in Elizabeth and Bloomfield before moving to Rockaway in 1956; he recently settled in Port Charlotte, FL in September of last year.

He served in the Navy Seabees from 1943-1946 attaining the rank of Boatswains Mate 2nd Class.

Mr. Quinn was a draftsman with TILP from 1947-1984 and at HQ Design from 1984-2000.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Winifred; four children Joyce DiClementi, Susan, Jack and Thomas Quinn; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 23 at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia Cemetery, Rockaway. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway.

Rose (Chipko) Menzak

ROCKAWAY – Rose (Chipko) Menzak died on Friday, June 12, 2009 at Merry Heart Nursing Home of Boonton Twp. She was 98.

Born in Marcella, and lived most of her life in Rockaway.

She retired from Howmet Corp.-Dover Alloy after 32 years.

She was a member of the Rockaway Boro Seniors and Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Rockaway.

She was predeceased by her husband Samuel, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 16 at 9:15 a.m. from Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway to a funeral Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Rockaway at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, E. Hanover. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 6-8 p.m. only.

Rita E. Lattig

BANGOR, PA – Rita E. Lattig died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Easton Hospital in Easton, PA. She was 76.

Born in Dover, she lived in Rockaway before moving to Bangor, PA 3 years ago.

Mrs. Lattig was a clerk with McGregor Sportswear in Dover for many years before her retirement.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Rockaways, and the Eastern Star Rebecca Lodge of Dover.

She was predeceased by her first husband Norman E. Lattig Sr. in 1989 and her second husband Charles Bidgood in 2003.

She is survived by three children Norman Jr., and Sandra Monticello both of Mt. Bethel, PA, and James of E. Bangor, PA; a sister Jean Bakos of Mt. Bethel, PA; two grandchildren Eden Caparood and Harley Lattig both of Bangor, PA; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway. Entombment to follow at Locust Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. only.

Arthur R. James

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Arthur R. James died on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at home after a short illness. He was 84.

Born in Rockaway Borough, he was a lifelong resident of Rockaway.

Mr. James was a welder with Douglas Engineering in Rockaway for 11 years before retiring in 1995; prior to that he worked at Moretrench also in Rockaway for 35 years.

He served in the Army during WWII in the Normandy and Northern France Campaigns receiving two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

Mr. James was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway, the Rockaway Athletic Club and the Rockaway Twp. American Legion Post #344. He was also a baseball umpire for Little League, high school and college level teams.

He is survived by his wife Ann of 62 years; two daughters Sharon Stites of Rockaway and Cindy Vickers of St. Louis, MO; a sister Gladys Hosick of Denville; six grandchildren Sandra Brennan, Jennifer McLagan, Rebecca Stites, Jay and Jacqueline Gerard and Robert Vickers; and a great-granddaughter Jessica Gibbons.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway. Interment to follow at Rockaway Presbyterian Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. only.

Carolyn M. Moriarty

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Carolyn M. Moriarty died on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at home after a long illness. She was 70.

Born in the Paterson, she lived in Passaic and Lodi before moving to Rockaway Twp. in 1978.

Mrs. Moriarty was employed as an office manager with Bart Moriarty State Farm Insurance Agency in Rockaway for 25 years before retiring in 1998.

She is predeceased by her mother and father Maryann and Charles Hauser.

She is survived by her husband Bart Moriarty; a son David Springer of Hammonton, NJ; a daughter, Anita Kochis of Flanders, NJ; two grandchildren, Christina and Michael Kochis.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. at Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. only.

Mary M. Grivalsky

MONROE TWP. – Mary M. Grivalsky died on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Winwood at Forest Gate Assisted Living in Monroe Twp. She was 86.

Born in the Hibernia section of Rockaway Twp., she was a lifelong resident of Rockaway before moving to Monroe Twp. 3 years ago.

Mrs. Grivalsky was a homemaker.

She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Rockaway where she was a member of the Seniors Club; and was also a member of the Rockaway Borough Senior Citizens Club.

She is predeceased by her husband Joseph A. in 1985.

She is survived by her son Joseph of Naples, FL; two daughters, Barbara Nugent of Searsport, ME and Carol Wright of Cranbury; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 28 at 9:15 a.m. from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway to a funeral Mass celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Rockaway at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Locust Hill Cemetery. Elizabeth B. Poh

KENVIL – Elizabeth B. Poh died on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Troy Hills Nursing Home in Parsippany. She was 89.

Born in Erie, PA, to the late John Lovas and Mary (Serfozo) she lived in Queens, NY, Teaneck, before moving to Rockaway Twp. from 1965 to 1994; she later moved to Wharton and has resided in Kenvil for the last 5 years.

Mrs. Poh was a shade card/die worker with Sandoz in East Hanover before her retirement in 1988; prior to that she had worked as a teller at National Community Bank in Dover.

Mrs. Poh enjoyed spending time with her family playing Scrabble and watching NY Mets games. In her early years, she helped with Catholic Charities. She was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway and a member of the church Choir, the Rosary Society and the St. Cecilia’s Senior Citizens Club, where she enjoyed traveling with her many friends. She loved gardening and growing vegetables. For many years she was on the Woman’s and Mixed Bowling Leagues. She also enjoyed playing mahjong with friends.

She is predeceased by her husband Raymond in 1991.

She is survived by two sons Kenneth and his wife Mary Ellen of Kenvil, and Christopher and his wife Fran of Frenchtown; her daughter Mary Clarke and her husband Jim of Cresskill; her brother Steven Lovas and his wife Grace of Clearmont, FL; three grandchildren Christine (Clarke) and her husband Mike Randolph of Pt. Orchard, WA, Matthew David Poh of Kenvil, and Brendan Clarke and his wife Bari of Boulder, CO; and two great-grandchildren, Mia and Sebastian Randolph

Salvatore Carmen Pelaia

ROCKAWAY – Salvatore Carmen Pelaia died on Saturday, May 16, 2009 after a short illness. He was 76.

Born in Bellville, he lived in Rutherford and Lodi before moving to Rockaway 42 years ago.

Mr. Pelaia was an electronics technician with Singer-Kearfott in Wayne for 25 years before his retirement in 1989.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1952 to 1960.

He was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife Lois; three children, Richard Alan of Bristow, VA, Karen Ann Horvath of Bedford, NY, and David Paul of Chandler, AZ; a sister, Rose D’Alessio of Toms River; two brothers Fred of Hanover, PA and Carmen of Randolph; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 20 at 9:15 a.m. from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway to a funeral Mass celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway at 10:00 a.m. . Robert G. Schlemm

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Robert G. Schlemm died on Saturday, May 16, 2009 after a long illness. He was 83.

Born in Union City, he lived in North Bergen before moving to Rockaway Twp. in 1960.

Mr. Schlemm was an engineer with Union Carbide in Bound Brook for 10 years before retiring in 1983.

He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Mountain Lakes.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; two daughters Karen Will of Rockaway Twp. and Kathi Davey of Selkirk, NY; his sister Audrey Temple of Somerset; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 19 at 10:00 a.m. at King of Kings Lutheran Church, Rt. 46, Mountain Lakes. Entombment to follow at Restland Memorial Park, E. Hanover. Dori A. Ferrone

ROCKAWAY – Dori A. Ferrone died on Wednesday, April 22, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was 41.

Born in Dover she was raised in Byram Twp. and lived in Netcong before moving to Rockaway 6 years ago.

She was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway.

She is survived by her husband, Scott, her brother Niel Gylling of Easton, PA, her sister Vicky and her husband Joseph Jacobsen of Blairstown. She is also survived by several nieces and a nephew.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 25 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway. Interment to follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery. Arrangements are by Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.

Della O. Williams

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Della O. Williams died on Monday, April 20, 2009 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. She was 83.

Born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas she lived in Washington, D.C. before moving to Rockaway 49 years ago.

Mrs. Williams was a homemaker.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Donatoni and her husband Mark, her son Brian K. Moehrbach, and two grandsons Nicholas and Michael Donatoni all of Rockaway.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Locust Hill Cemetery – Mausoleum Chapel, Dover. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.

L. Robert Smith

ROCKAWAY TWP. – L. Robert “Bob” Smith died on Friday, April 10, 2009 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover following complications from a stroke. He was 92.

Born in Middletown, OH, he moved to Rockaway Twp. 53 years ago.

Mr. Smith attended Ohio State University and later completed his degree at Newark College of Engineering (now The NJ Institute of Technology) in 1967.

He began his career at the Curtiss-Wright Corp. in E. Rutherford, and later worked at Thomas A. Edison Industries in West Orange before retiring as an electrical engineer with NY Telephone Co. in New York, NY in 1985. Mr. Smith was also the inventor of the ionization chamber for Industrial Nucleonics in Columbus, OH. He also worked at Hercules as part of the Apollo Mission.

He was a member of the NJ Jazz Society, the Barn Theater in Montville, and the Association of BellTel Retirees. He was also a member of the choir at the United Methodist Church of the Rockaways. Mr. Smith had a great love of music and following his retirement enjoyed playing his beloved tenor guitar.

He is predeceased by his mother Grace Hawkins and his brother Rogers Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife Novella of 54 years and his daughter Karen Sue Smith of Rockaway Twp.; and his cousins by marriage, The Brooks Family of Centerville, OH.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 18 at 12 noon at the United Methodist Church of the Rockaways, 1 Hoagland Ave., Rockaway. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway. Interment will take place in Ohio.

Henry Farischon, Jr.

ROCKAWAY – Henry Farischon Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at Kindred Hospital in Dover following a long illness. He was 74.

Born in Scranton, PA, he spent most of his youth in Lyndhurst before moving to the Denville/Rockaway area 49 years ago.

Henry was employed at McLean Trucking Co. in Kearny for 25 years as a diesel mechanic, and then for 10 years at Old Dominion Freight Lines in Jersey City as a shop supervisor before retiring in 2002. In addition he was also the proprietor of Farischon Truck Repair, which he ran with his sons John, Joseph and James.

Henry enjoyed camping, fishing and learning about historical events.

He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn of 50 years; his son John and his wife Laura of Rockaway, his son Joseph and his wife Jodie of Lafayette, his daughter Mary of Rockaway, his son James of Afton, NY; his sister Doris of Lyndhurst; his grandchildren John Jr., Shannon, Justin, Chelsea, Nicholas, Cody and Ryan; and five nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 14 at 9:15 a.m. from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway to a funeral Mass at St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. only.

Christina Nizmak

ROCKAWAY – Christina Nizmak died suddenly on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at home. She was 82.

Born in Newark, she lived in Montville before moving to Rockaway in 1959.

Mrs. Nizmak was a homemaker.

She was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway.

She was predeceased by her husband Harry Sr. in 2001.

She is survived by her son Harry Jr. of Rockaway; and two brothers Carmen Tanzola of Parsippany and Tony Tanzola of Florida.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 3 at 10:30 a.m. from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway to a funeral Mass at St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway at 11:30a.m. Interment will follow at Hainesville Cemetery in Sandyston. Ann Williams

ROCKAWAY TWP. - Ann (Anuario) Williams died peacefully on March 30, 2009 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover after a valiant 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Orange, she was a long-time resident of White Meadow Lake Community in Rockaway Twp since 1964.

She retired in 1998 from Redmond Press, Denville, NJ where she worked for 28 yrs.

She is survived by her husband of 54 yrs, Don Williams; three children, Liz Meininger and husband Bill, Bill Williams and wife Jennilyn, Michael Williams and partner Jamie Roberts; a proud and loving Nana of Chris Kelly, Alex and Rebecca Meininger, Trevor Williams, Nathan Williams, Brianna Meininger and Great-Nana to Sydney Jean Campagna; loving sister of Jay Conroy of Margate, Florida and Nan Hartigan of West Orange; loving aunt to many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; and a true and loyal friend to many.

Visitation hours will be held on Friday April 3, at the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway, NJ from 2-4 and 7-9p.m.

Barbara Ann Skutka

ROCKAWAY – Barbara Ann Skutka died on Monday, March 30, at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville. She was 72.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY she lived in the Lake Telemark section of Rockaway Twp. for 28 years before settling in Rockaway Borough 23 years ago.

Mrs. Skutka was a licensed realtor with Century 21 Cardinal in Parsippany for the last 28 years, and was the recipient of the Award of Excellence for real estate.

She previously served as a Girl Scout troop leader. She was a one in a million individual who helped every life she touched.

She is survived by her husband George of 53 years; her three children Lynda Gilliland of Netcong, Steve Skutka of Parsippany, and Lorraine Skutka of Rockaway; two grandchildren Dawn Gilliland and Skye Schadler; and many brothers-in law and sisters-in-law that she called her family.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 10:00 a.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway. Interment at Marcella Union Cemetery, Rockaway Twp. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. only.

Dorothy Jane Neesham

SPRING HILL, FL – Dorothy Jane (Farrow) Neesham, who was dearly loved by family and friends, died on Thursday, March 26, 2009 in Spring Hill, FL. She was 92.

She was born on May 14, 1916 in Archbald, PA, to the late Joseph and Mary Jane Farrow.

She graduated from Westside Hospital Nursing School in Scranton, PA as a registered nurse and worked in maternity at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Dover General Hospital and St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Rockaways, the Pearl Chapter #79 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Dover and the Women’s Society.

She was a longtime resident of Rockaway. For the past several years she had been living with her granddaughter and her family in Newton, and recently had moved to Spring Hill, FL to live with her grandson and his family.

Dorothy was lovingly referred to as “Nana” by her 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas H.; her son Thomas F. and her daughter Joan Culleny, a granddaughter Kathy Culleny; her 4 sisters, Minnie, Elizabeth, Elvira and Margaret; and her 4 brothers, Clinton, John, Eckley and Joseph.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Daniel (Joanne) Culleny of E. Stroudsburg, PA, Thomas (Kathryn) Neesham of Spring Hill, FL, Robert (Michelle) Culleny of Port Jervis, NY, Tina (Richard) Neumann of Spring Hill, FL and Dorothy (Roger) Kent of Newton. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, Cecilia Gonzalez, Brianna Culleny, Madison, Ella and Grace Neesham, Kaylie and Robert Jr. Culleny, Johnny, Eaton and Morgan Neumann, and Silas, Madison and Sadie Kent; and several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of the Rockaways, 1 Hoagland Ave., Rockaway. Interment at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover. Visiting hours will be held on Monday at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway from 4:00. to 8:00 p.m. only.

Gertrude Schroeder

SUCCASUNNA – Gertrude Schroeder died on Monday March 23, 2008 at Merry Heart Nursing Home in Succasunna. She was 95.

Born in Brooklyn, NY she lived in South Ampton before moving to Succasunna over a year ago.

Mrs. Schroeder was a secretary at the American Kennel Club in NY before raising her children.

She is predeceased by her husband Leslie Joseph in 2006; her son Paul; her brother Francis Mullins; and her grandson Christopher Takacs.

She is survived by two daughters Carol Takacs of Rockaway Twp., and Jacqueline Cardone of Summit; four grandchildren Tracy Friedella, Thomas Takacs, Kimberly Smith and Scott Cardone; and three great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday morning, March. 27 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway. A funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon following the visitation hours at St. Cecilia Church.

Ecla E. Wellington

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Ecla Elizabeth Wellington died on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville. She was 84.

Born in Rockaway Twp. to the late David and Beatrice Wellington, she was a lifelong resident.

Miss Wellington was a file clerk at Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway Twp. for 30 years before her retirement.

She is survived by several cousins.

Katherine Duda

MORRISTOWN – Katherine Duda died on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Spring Hills Assisted Living in Morristown. She was 84.

Born in Oberlahnstein, Germany, she came to the U.S. in 1951 and had lived in Clifton, Parsippany and Wharton before moving to Morristown.

Mrs. Duda was a retail clerk at Botany Mills in Passaic before her retirement.

She was predeceased by her husband Michael in 1972; her son, Stephen; and her brother and two sisters.

She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Rochelle of Rockaway; her daughter Linda Figliolina and her husband Ron of Pennsylvania; her daughter-in-law Cathy Duda; two sisters Heidi and Suzzie; six grandchildren Erica, Matthew, Tim Nicole, Dan and Lisa; and two great-grandchildren Aubrey and Lily.

Donald L. Tironi

ROCKAWAY – Donald L. Tironi died on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville. He was 76.

Born in Dover, he was a lifelong resident of Rockaway

He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Tironi was the superintendent of the Water Dept. for Rockaway Twp. Public Works for 20 years before his retirement in 1993; prior to that he worked in the Water Dept. in Rockaway Borough.

He was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway.

He was predeceased by his brother Frank.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Theresa; three children, Donald F. and his fiancée Anne Trivett of Rockaway, Marlina Tironi of West Orange, and Andrew Prezuhy and his wife Patricia of Rockaway; and two sisters, Mary Krisanda of Denville and Sally Masi of Florida.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14 at 8:30 a.m. from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway to a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway. Gertrude Z. Lauenstein

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Gertrude Z. Lauenstein died on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. She was 80.

Born and raised in Hoboken, she lived in Jacksonville, FL for 5 years before moving to Rockaway Twp. in 1962.

Mrs. Lauenstein was a secretary with Data Trak Systems in Parsippany before her retirement, prior to that she worked at the Daily Advance in Dover.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dover.

She was predeceased by her husband William on February 4, 2009.

She is survived by her son Eric of Neptune City; two daughters, Iris Matalenas and her husband Jeff of Frederick, MD, and Diana Lauenstein of Rockaway Twp.; and her granddaughter Amanda.

Teresa McBride

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Teresa McBride died on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at home. She was 88.

Born in Jersey City, she moved to Rockaway Twp. in 1970.

Mrs. McBride was a supervisor with AT&T in Piscataway for 20 years before her retirement in 1982.

She was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Mrs. McBride was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and always enjoyed cooking for her family.

She was predeceased by her husband James in 1971 and her brother Basil Cavalli.

She is survived by two daughters Rosemary McBride and her husband Charles Bur, and Joanne Mc Bride and her husband Michael McBride all of Rockaway; two sisters, Marie Longo and Madeline Liberatore; three grandchildren Michael and David McBride and James Bur; and two great-grandchildren Mickey and Meghan Teresa McBride.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 9:15 a.m. from the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway, to a funeral Mass celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway at 10 a.m. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Charles J. Suk, Jr.

ROCKAWAY – Charles J. Suk, Jr. died on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. He was 67.

Born in Dover, he lived in Rockaway for the last 43 years.

Mr. Suk was a civil engineer with HNTB in Fairfield from May 1961 to May 2004. He started at the company as part of a survey team, and then led the survey team as chief of parties. He later became a resident engineer of pavement projects; and he took on additional responsibilities as a density specialist of soil and materials. He retired as resident field engineer. He was involved in the NJ Turnpike widening projects in 1969, 1971 and 1980 and was also involved in the Allied Junction Exchange (Secaucus Transfer Station) from 1996 – 2004.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dover where he also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Mr. Suk had many hobbies. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, golfer, and a member of the Northwest Jersey Hi-Railer Club of Paterson.

He is predeceased by his father Charles J. Suk Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth; his daughter Diane E. Dixon and her husband Donald; his son Stephen and his wife Tory; his mother Florence; his brother Matthew; two sisters, Flossie Freund and her husband Richard and Jackie Culvert and her husband Tom; a sister-in-law Joan Yurecsko; a step-grandson Iyman Byrd; two great-nephews; four great-nieces and many other nieces and nephews.

William A. Lauenstein

ROCKAWAY TWP. – William A. Lauenstein died on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. He was 85.

Born in Bayonne, he lived in Jersey City before moving to Jacksonville, FL for 5 years, returning to Rockaway Twp. in 1962.

Mr. Lauenstein was a quality control supervisor with Maxwell House in Hoboken for 37 years, retiring in 1980.

He served in the Army Air Corp. during WWII.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dover where he also volunteered. Mr. Lauenstein was a past Cub Scout leader and a volunteer at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gertrude; his son Eric of Neptune City; two daughters, Iris Matalenas and her husband Jeff of Frederick, MD and Diana Lauenstein of Rockaway Twp.; his brother Tom of Georgia; a granddaughter Amanda; and two nieces Ingrid and Doris Lauenstein.

Ruth S. Moeller

ROCKAWAY – Ruth S. Moeller died on Sunday, February 1, 2009 in Rockaway, NJ at the home of her daughter Nancy. She was 87.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she lived in Staten Island, NY for 26 years and Tequesta, FL for 30 years before moving to St. Francis Residential Community in Denville, NJ a year and a half ago.

Mrs. Moeller was a claims processor with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. in NY for 10 years before her retirement in 1980.

She had been a member of the Little Club Assn. of Tequesta, FL and the Jupiter Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husband Bernard in 1985.

She is survived by her four children, Gerard Moeller of Staten Island, NY, Susan Moeller and her partner Koala Vandruff of Anchorage, Alaska, Nancy Reyes and her husband Julio of Rockaway and Robert Moeller of Tampa, FL; three granddaughters, Amberle and Andrea Reyes, and Meagan Anne Moeller; and many nieces.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.

Thomas J. Anselmo

ROCKAWAY TWP. – Thomas J. Anselmo died on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at home after a long illness. He was 56.

Born and raised in Hackensack, he moved to Rockaway Twp. in 1980.

He received his Bachelor’s degree in 1975 and his Master’s degree in 1992, both from Montclair State University.

Mr. Anselmo was a self-employed computer systems analyst with Ansel & Associates Computing Inc. of Dover for 15 years before his retirement. He had also been an adjunct professor of computers at County College of Morris in Randolph. Computers were his passion, and he maintained a very elaborate computer room. He also started a side company in which he created panoramic pictures, with a focus on Maui, Hawaii.

He and his daughter, Patti, were involved with the Randolph Indian Princess, and he was treasurer of her Girl Scout Troop #1805 of Rockaway. Mr. Anselmo was a board member of the Baroque Orchestra of NJ.

He was a parishioner of St. Clement Pope & Martyr Church in Rockaway Twp.

He is survived by his loving wife Valerie; his cherished daughter Patti, at home; and his beloved mother Wilma Anselmo of Hackettstown. Also surviving are his uncle, Paul Bauer of Hackettstown, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Al and Audrey Semple of Rolling Meadows, IL; and his brother-in-law Mark Semple of Boyton Beach, FL.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 10:00 a.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.

Anne F. Burke

HACKETTSTOWN – Anne F. Burke died on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at the House of Good Shepherd in Hackettstown. She was 87.

Born in New York City, NY, to Annie and Patrick, she was one of twelve children who included Michael, Patrick, Mary, Peggy, Ellen, Kathleen, Agnes, James, Elizabeth, Theresa, and Frances. She previously lived in South Seaside Park until 2007.

Mrs. Burke was a homemaker.

She was a parishioner of St. Catherine’s Church of Seaside Park, a member of the church’s Rosary Society and the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

She is predeceased by her husband John in 1990.

She is survived by six children, Barbara Sherwood of Silver Spring, MD, John Jr. of Woodland Park, Patrick of Washington, Ronnie Abrams of Rockaway, James of Philadelphia, PA, and Joseph of Landing; and 13 grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Rockaway.

Philip Pirrello

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Philip Pirrello, 88, of West Palm Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at St. Clares Hospital, Denville.

Mr. Pirrello was born in Bloomfield and was a former resident of Livingston, where he lived for 20 years.

He was a barber at Phil's Barber Shop, where he worked for 42 years before retiring in 1987.

Mr. Pirrello was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served during World War II and saw action at Normandy and in the Battle of the Bulge.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine; his daughter, Donna Zirkel and her husband Robert of Rockaway; his daughter, Phyllis Pirrello and Joseph Runyans of Rockaway; and two grandchildren, Daniel and Jennifer Zirkel.

Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009 at the Whitham Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway.

Patsy A. "Pat" Ciardi

SUCCASUNNA – Patsy A. “Pat” Ciardi died on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. He was 71.

Born in Rockaway, he moved to Mine Hill in 1961 and has lived in Succasunna for the past 20 years.

He was a self employed mason for the last 20 years; prior to that he was a business agent for the Masons’ Union Local 37 of Dover for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife Beverly of 51 years; six children Debra Greene and her husband Paul of Rockaway, Dean Ciardi of Rockaway, Dawn Ciardi of Landing, Mark Ciardi and his wife Anna of Pennsylvania, Michael Ciardi of Pennsylvania and Tara Ciardi of Rockaway; and five grandchildren Brittney, Alyssa, Paris, Mihaella and Zachary. Also surviving are four brothers James Ciardi and his wife Jane of Rockaway, Robert Ciardi and his wife Helen of Rockaway, Ernest Ciardi and his wife Kathy, and John Ciardi all of South Carolina; and his sister Marie Stiles and her husband Bill also of South Carolina.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway. Entombment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

ROCKAWAY – Martha Jane Budd died on Saturday, January 3, 2008 at home. She was 85.

Born in Dover, she was a lifelong resident of Rockaway and had previously wintered in Boyton Beach, FL.

Mrs. Budd was a homemaker.

She was a member of the Rockaway Boro Super Seniors.

She is survived by her husband John R.; four daughters, Sharon McMahon of Hackettstown, Merile Allen of Ojai, CA, Sandra Taylor of Belmar, Pamela Culp of Ashville, NC; a son Christopher of Rockaway; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

DENVILLE – Joseph W. Stoddard died on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Franciscan Oaks in Denville. He was 92.

Born in Brooklyn, NY to the late William and Catherine Stoddard, he lived in Valley Stream, NY before moving to Denville 3 years ago.

He was an insurance salesman and the owner of Turtle Bay Brokerage in Wantagh, NY for 20 years.

Mr. Stoddard served in the Army under Gen. George S. Patton during WWII.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion both of Long Island.

He is predeceased by his sister Mazie, and three brothers Bill, John and Frank.

He is survived by his wife Audrey of 69 years; two sons, Daniel and his wife Tricia of Vero Beach, FL, and John and his wife Luci of Denville; and four grandchildren, Nicholas, Joseph, Jackson and Christine Stoddard.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 9:15 a.m. from the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway to a funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 10 N. Pocono Rd., Mountain Lakes at 10 a.m.
