Obituary for Thomas D. Suto

Thomas “Tom” D. Suto, 79, died in his home on September 28, 2018, surrounded by his dedicated wife and daughter. Tom was a lifelong resident of Rockaway and a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Tom graduated Morris Hills High School in 1960. After graduating from high school, Tom worked at Austinel Dover Alloid Company for a couple of years before entering the service. Tom was an Airman 1st Class in the Air Force from 1962-1966. He was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana. During his time in the service, Tom attended a trade school where he began his studies in electronics. After completing 4 years in the service, Tom returned back to Austinel Dover Alloid Company. He completed his education in electronics at RCA Technical School in New York, earning an Electronic Technician Certification, and at County College of Morris in Randolph, earning an Associates of Science degree.
After college, Tom was employed at Boonton Electronics, Boonton, as a Line Technician; Clay Adams, Parsippany, as an Electronic Technician; Hewlett-Packard, Rockaway, as an Electronic Technician; Kop-Coat Marine Paint Factory, Rockaway, as a Foreman and Home Depot, Dover, as a Sale Associate in the Electrical Department. Throughout Tom’s employment at Hewlett-Packard, he also taught Basic Electronics part-time at Denville Technical School. During Tom’s retirement, he worked part-time at Sacred Heart School, Rockaway, as a custodian.
Tom enjoyed hunting, clay bird shooting, target shooting, hiking and mechanic work on old cars. He was a member of the Green Mountain Bowmen Club, a member of the National Rifle Association, part of the SFAA and NFAA, and also a member of the Cherry Ridge Rifle Range. Tom, along with his daughter, completed the FCC Amateur Ham Radio Licensing course and received his Ham Radio License.
Tom was predeceased by his mother and father, Katherine and George Korkos, who were lifelong residents of Rockaway. He was survived by his wife Irene “Michele” Suto, Rockaway; his daughter, Alison Suto and her husband Antonio, Hopatcong; his brother and sister-in-law Harold and Geraldine Suto, Nevada; his sister and brother-in-law Stefany and John Mendl, Great Meadows; his niece Jessica Suto, Nevada and his nephew Robert Suto, Paterson.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, October 1st at 9:15AM from the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home. 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway to a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Rockaway at 10AM. A Christian burial will follow at Saint Cecilia’s Cemetery in Rockaway.
Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Sept. 30th from 2:00 – 6:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, Tom would like donations made in his memory to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Donations can be mailed to: 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
